making-sweetness Loads of Go Mi-nam Part 3
Monday, October 10, 2011 making-sweetness Back to the top

Just before school starts proper, I'd thought I should revisit my Go Mi-nam series while I still have the time to do so. This time round, it's about a couple of my fav korean leading men! =D It's a sure sign that I've been watching too many shows & following too many recaps over the summer holiday as well, but that's another story altogether.

Let me introduce to you Jung Il woo, Kim Bum and Lee Minho!!!! From left to right.

They are not just eye-candy in the shows, but they can actually act decently enough, plus....they are good friends IN REAL LIFE. How cool is that! I didn't even know that till recently. Lol. Maybe they practise acting with each other in their free time too....when lee minho isn't on a date with park minyoung anyway.

I'll start with the guy who caught my eye first - Kimbum. I admit that it's coz I joined the "Boys over flowers" bandwagon when it was the hottest show in town. Though the drama was a major disappointment plotwise and I utterly despised guem jandi by the end of it, there were 2 things that made this drama slightly more bearable: The kimbum-soeun couple and hyunjoongie's LOLishly fail violin playing (kept me in stitches when i wasn't cringing at the horrible plot). Totally can't emphasize how much I ADORE the kimbum-soeun couple since they looked so cute together! SoEulmates forever!!! hehehehe

I know everyone else was swooning over Lee Minho in BOF but seriously, NOT WITH THAT HORRIBLE PERM. Kimbum is the 2nd from the left btw, with the most boyish look. He's only 1 yr older than me lor...so young! Kim joon (from T-max. Extreme left.) and Kim Hyunjoong (leader of SS501. Extreme right.) make up the rest of the BOF crowd, if you didn't already know that.

Kimbum was also in Highkick 1 (looking even younger and even more boyish), where he met Jung Il woo! According to fansites, that's when their bromance started....though if you watch the show, it's actually quite ironic since Kimbum plays the best friend of Jung Il woo's on-screen brother and there was some pretty intense sibling rivalry going on in that show.

I totally dig this pic btw coz it's got Kimbum (1st left), Jung Il woo (3rd from right), my 2pm bias Chansung (2nd from right) and Lee Minho's REAL LIFE girlfriend Park Minyoung (the only girl there). EYECANDY!

I heard that Kimbum was great in "The woman who still wants to marry but I didn't watch that or read its recaps, so I can't comment on that. I'll be nice & throw in a picture here anyway.

Moving on to the 2nd guy that caught my eye....I'll say it's Lee Minho. AFTER he had a haircut. His BOF style Goo Junpyo curls bothered me as much as it bothered Lee Minho (check his BOF interviews for prove of that). Luckily, he got a haircut for his next show, Personal Taste, so all is well. =D
I must admit that I didn't finish Personal Taste even though I was intrigued by the premise and Lee Minho was in it....just because I couldn't stand the female lead (Sohn ye jin) and the writing was really sloppy from the middle onwards. You would have thought that a straight guy pretending to be gay to stay in the same house as the girl AND THEN falling in love with the girl would have provided lots of material and comical fodder, but no, it just came off as kind of bland. I think I even fell asleep during parts of it. Honestly, it was only a 'MEHHHH...' drama. Sorry Lee Minho, I tried to like it but failed. =( Still, you did look good in it, if that's any consolation.

Luckily for Lee Minho, there was City Hunter!

He plays a guy with a double life - a geeky computer technician at the president's office by day; and an uber cool, ass-kicking vigilante with a heart by night; oh...and a full-time flirt. Sort of like a modern day superhero with a dark past (he's taking revenge for his father's death by bringing the corrupt movers-and-shakers of society to justice). I really REALLY want to watch this for it's tight plot and intriguing twist, but alas, I only have time to read its recaps. NOOOO....now I can't watch Lee Minho in action for the entire 20 episodes. =( This behind-the-scenes video below just shows me what I'm missing out on...*whinewhinewhine*

This show was great for Lee Minho in more ways than one - not only was it a top-rated show in Korea & overseas, he met his reel-life and real-life girlfriend, Park Minyoung. The picture below is from City Hunter, not their real-life dates (seriously...a taekwondo date a real life? That would be one very interesting date...)

On to the last guy - Jung Ilwoo! I totally blame Dramabeans for making me obsessed me him through her "Return of Iljimae" drama recaps (http://www.dramabeans.com/2009/01/the-return-of-iljimae-mbc-premieres/) where she waxed lyrical about his acting (and how it improved tremendously), action scenes, "mane of glory" (i.e. the long hair necessary in every korean period drama), cinematography....EVERYTHING.

How can I resist his brooding good looks?????? Since resistance is futile and it was my summer holidays, I caught Jung Il woo as the best looking "Scheduler" around in "49days" (considering Return of iljimae is older & longer than 49days). I really recommend 49days btw, it's a really touching and thought-provoking drama on death & it's effect on the people around those that have passed on. Basically, it tells the viewers about accepting death of a loved one and how to move on from it....in one of the most depressing ways possible. The cliff-hangers at the end of each episode kept me anxious and wanting to watch the next episode (even though I've read the ENTIRE recap before), plus the twist at the end was sooo good. I almost cried while screaming at the com (and marvelling at the courage of the scriptwriters to actually come up with such a plot-twist). xP

As much as I like Hankang (the very understanding male lead) and was blown away by the wonderful acting of the actress playing Song Yikyung (how can she switch between the cheerful ghost Jihyun and the  depressed human Yikyung in a split second???), Jung Il woo ALWAYS stole the show as the "Scheduler". He plays a modern sort of Grim Reaper, escorting recently deceased souls up the escalator to 'heaven', as well as keeping an eye on '49ers' like the ghost Jihyun who died before their time and are suppose to collect 3 pure tears to return to life.

He's cool, can sing (listen to "scarecrow" on 49days OST), looks hot, can ride a motorbike, has a dry humour, can conjure up things.....no wonder his character quipped that if people knew that he was a scheduler, there would be TONS of girls commiting suicide in the area to see him. LOL....modesty is not his characters strong point.
And I did say that this is a really morbid show, thematically. Luckily for the cute bits inserted generously in between or I would have been too sad to finish it.

Jung Il woo was also in "My Fair Lady" with Yoon Eunhye, which I managed to catch the last episode of in Singapore on 都会台 . It looks cute & airy-fairy but alas, I do not have the time to watch the first 15epidsodes of it. =( He doesn't get the girl anyway.....pft. Nevermind, how about giving me those flowers and that winsome smile instead? =D

I've already talked about Jung Il woo being the title character in Unstoppable High Kick, so here's a picture to refresh your memory. ^^

Soooo....I've introduced the 3 of them. The question on your mind might be...how did they become best buddies anyway??? To start with, Jung Il woo and Lee Minho were childhood friends & knew each other from school. If I'm not wrong, they even stayed near each other (lucky neighbours and school mates. xP). Then Jung Il woo and Kimbum got to know each other in High Kick while Lee Minho got close to Kimbum during BOF. Put that all together and what happens? 3 cute guys hanging out with each other!!!! =D A fangirls' dream....lolol.

They attend events with each other...

Celebrate each others' birthdays (selcas from kimbum's bday celebration if i'm not wrong)...

Hang out together and take selcas....

Have a meal together...

And even go night-cycling. HAPPENING PEOPLE.

I shall stop here....too envious of their bromance to continue. I do have to add that there are a couple of other Korean actors that I like too!

Like Hyunbin....in Secret Garden

Or....Jang Geun Suk (I admit that I REFUSE to write more about him until he cuts off that mane of his. It's even longer and more feminine than mine can! Even I have a limit to how pretty boy a male artiste can look before I write him off as 'too feminine to be hot'. xP Those korean ahjummahs probably mistake him for a girl if they see him from the back at the supermarket or something....LOL)

I think Noh Minwoo looks flawless, Song joongki is happily quirky, Yoo Ah-in is soo cool...if I continue adding the rest of the actors I like, I'll never be able to sleep. Lol. Anyway, big thankies to everyone who uploaded the pictures on the internet; I really appreciate all that they've done! Btw, can't believe this post took about 3 weeks of intermittant work on it, no thanks to the many photos and the truckload of things I have to do back in real-life. xP Hope I'll find time to do a part 4 to this series soon....though it's super unlikely. LOL.

Enjoy!
