making-sweetness Nostalgic pangs
Monday, July 25, 2011 making-sweetness Back to the top

The sky was baby blue and the sun was beating down on us as we made our way across the bridge. There was a familiar, yet foreign feeling to this latest trip to Sentosa. It may be the same place, geographically speaking, but it was not the same island I visited a few years ago. That island has now been relegated to a part of my memory, along with the other places around this red dot that have been 'sacrificed' in the never-ending chase for more development.

Sure, the new Resort World Sentosa looks mighty impressive and I'm sure Universal Studios (and the casino) draw in plenty of tourists, but it strikes a dissonant chord in my memory. The ferry terminal is the 1st image that comes to mind when people mention Sentosa, so I was a little taken aback by the changes I saw.

VS

And while I appreciate that the monorail is now airconditioned, a small part of me misses the times when one can feel the leaves of the trees brushing past one's face along the way. Or even the times during school outings to Sentosa when people could throw things at each other between the carriages. Those were the days.

Maybe these nostalgic pangs only hit me when I realise parts of my childhood are slowly being erased to make way for more impressive structures that would be integral in the memories of the future generation. How many of those born in the 90s would remember that before Marina bay was developed, it was an awesome place for flying kites? Much better than Marina barrage, especially since there was more place to run around without the fear of tumbling down the rooftop of the barrage. And for fellow MGSians, who would remember that the building was painted pastel pink, yellow and blue instead of the institutional grey colour? How about the random playgrounds, the pink steps, the nearly unplayable canteen piano, so on and so forth. They are all gone now, living only in the memories of those who experienced them firsthand.

As the sound of the last KTM train passing the Bukit Timah area fades into history, so marks the passing on of many symbols that form a part of my past. "Forget me not," would be their earnest plea if they could speak...

...Don't worry, you all will remain a part of my memory as long as I live. =)

making-sweetness When the world flies past me...
Wednesday, July 20, 2011 making-sweetness Back to the top

Maybe it's just my slacker personality, but i'm totally happy with doing nothing (whereas other people will be complaining of boredom). And thus, I've been kinda doing just that since I came back from HK a couple of days ago. ^^ Or rather...I've turned into my drama-crazed alter ego (in a jekyll & hyde way) completely unlike what society expects of medics. Well, society can just humour me during the summer holidays when I embrace my inner fan-girl then. muahahahaha

As expected of my inner BOICEness, I have been following heartstrings just coz yonghwa & minhyuk are in it. Er...I must admit that the OST & the BGM is more engaging than the actual plot though, especially when they fused pop with traditional korean music. Have I mentioned how much I love that kind of thing? No? Well, I LOOOOOVE that to bits (when pulled of well, of course)!

Plot-wise, Heartstings is abit draggy coz I think they do not focus on the right aspects of the story. Personally, I want more interaction between Kyuwon (park shinhye) and Shin (jung yonghwa), not their parents or professors! The back story with the parents is just soooo confusing and I don't really care if Shin's mum used to date Kyuwon's dad till Shin's dad stole her away....just please don't make Kyuwon & Shin turn out to be siblings. Show, if you pull that on me, I will be seriously very very disappointed in you. As for the professors, please cut back on the scenes with the ballet professor. I totally get that Shin has a 1-sided crush on the ballet professor and how she can't forget her ex (who is the musical director), but can we please move on with the loveline? It's been stagnant for the past 3-4 episodes (a long time in a 16-ep drama) and frankly speaking, it's been so long drawn that I get annoyed when the ballet professor comes on screen. Heck, I was even half cursing at my computer screen when she got off the car at the end of episode 6 to give Shin (who's father just passed away) a hug after telling him to stay away from her. Please confuse him much ah. And when Kyuwon enters the scene, she finds him crying on the ballet professor's shoulder. I felt kyuwon's pain in the words she spoke, but more out of annoyance about the ballet professor's presence than sympathy for any of the leads.

If I were the scriptwriter, I would have the ballet prof sitting in the car feeling guilty and wondering if she should comfort him. Then just as she is about to get off the car, Kyuwon comes into view (filmed thru the car window of course). I haven't decided if I want Shin to cry in front of her yet or if Kyuwon actually comforts him coz I don't know how ep 7 will turn out yet. I would prefer that Kyuwon doesn't really comfort him outright, but just sits beside him in the rain, then Shin would just breakdown silently as Kyuwon has a voiceover (as per what actually happened in the show).

I should totally just be a drama scriptwriter/producer/director instead. LOL. Especially if ep7 disappoints me after teasing me with that nice trailer. HAHAHHAAHAH. Wait wait. I have 1 more thing on my wishlist, which is to give jonghyun & jungshin a cameo! They are bandmates lor....1 measly cameo isn't too much to ask is it? Especially since they aren't part of the band in the show. Please please please make that happen & I'll quit complaining about the mopey ballet professor.

Anyway...aside from watching shows, I packed my room and threw out alot of things mercilessly. Oh! And I walked on the ktm railway tracks near my house before they removed it all, but that can all come another time on another post ^^ I should get back to doing more productive things other than finding out about who 'm signal' is. xP
