making-sweetness And it's the end of the NOUGHTIES
Thursday, December 31, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

Well well, I didn't realise that the years 2000-2009 are collectively known as the NOUGHTIES coz of the zeroes there. But now that I do, I shall adopt it too. =D Of course, I shan't do as the newspapers do and recap all (mildly) significant events that have happened to me in the past 10 years-that'll be OVERKILL- but I'll be a tad introspective and think about this year.

I mean...HECK IT. 31st dec only comes once a year, OBVIOUSLY. hahahha...and I'm supposed to reflect on the year that's just past right? It's kinda customary for me to reflect on a certain aspect of the year in december anyway, so I'll just keep up with this tradition =D It may be a wee bit disjointed though, especially since I'm watching "big fat quiz of the year (2009)" on channel 4 now--a crappy tv show with quite alot of interesting news/fun-facts of the year and retarded guests. Strangely apt, ain't it?

Anyways, 2009 was a really quirky and slack year. A year of great change, but of change that's generally welcomed. A year of forgetting events/persons/organisations that really cheese me off, but remembering (and holding dear) the things that REALLY matter and can help me cope/get on with my 'new life' here. A year of trying new things, some of which was new coz i couldn't be bothered to do/didn't have to get it done by myself previously. Ah...and the year when I got hooked onto Korean music and shows. Compared to the lousy 2008, 2009 was so SO much better.

Basically, 2009 for me can be separated into 2 segments--pre-uni (from jan to sept) and post-uni (sept to now). The former doesn't leave too much of an impression on me coz I admit that I was slacking away watching shows for most of that time. Whereas for the latter, I was so busy studying/going for different activities/doing housework to note down most of what I did. Well, I guess the later 1/4 of the year was more 'fun' for me coz I was too busy to think of stupid things. See what not doing anything does to you lor--gives you lotsa time to think and ponder, usually about dumb things.

Anyways, didn't do much in January, I think. Probably watched shows, practised cello, meet up with friends--coz I have ZILCH recollection of what I did in January. I think that's pretty much the case till I started working in may. Along the way, I got my (a tad disappointing) A level result, started to learn how to drive, immersed myself in church activites, started preparing stuff to clear before going overseas..oh and thinking & blogging abit too often. Boring right? I think so too!

I think the most interesting stuff I did was to go make the stuff with Tiffany to support the handbell juniors! And go out with all the different groups of friends to different places for lil meet-ups. hehehehe....I DID watch alot of shows during this time though, so yeah! That was fun.

Started working for 2 months at swcdc in May, now THAT is a real novel experience! It wasn't that hard or anything, but the fact that I managed to earn some money using my own abilities, now THAT was cool. Not like I spent any of it, but after rotting at home like a useless bum for a couple a months, it's good to be productive (even if it's only for 2 months). And I managed to read alot of good books on the bus home! AND I managed to get my mind off a couple of not so very pleasant things, just coz I was busier than usual.

Stopped working after july though, so I had more time to prepare for my cello exam, drive around and prepare everything I need before flying off. OH..and more time to watch more shows and meet up with people for the last few times before I leave. BUT BUT BUT the main reason I stopped working was for the 1st couple of reasons, the later activities were kinda incidental lor. At least I managed to pass my cello exam! woots! I won't play it again but it's a nice way to end my 'musical journey'. As for my driving test....TOO BADS. Not my fault that I didn't go into the circuit enough times.

Still, was really glad to have some time to immerse myself in church activities too. Helping out in choir, yf, strings, junior worship...And its helping out in YF that I guessed I learnt alot. Kinda opened my eyes alot to what has to be done and about people in general. Interesting experience.

After being thrust into a completely new environment in sept, rather than feeling a sense of apprehension and fear, all I felt was anticipation! I have no idea whether this is where God wants me to be, though it seems to be the case. The people I meet are totally cool and friendly, the course is actually more manageable than expected and the change of environment was generally much much better for my frame of mind.

The best thing was that I was too busy doing other stuff (since I have to do EVERYTHING by myself) to keep pondering on and on and on about useless things (and persons perhaps?). Living independently wasn't as terrible as expected and I can cook much better than I thought I could. Does that make sense? Oh wells. I pretty much RELISH the freedom I have now to do what I want and feel that I can cope with; be it getting involved in church activities, chilling with pals, watching shows, doing random stuff. COOLIO.

Ahhh...and I've seen SNOW! hahahahahaha...it's still snowing here by the way. Really heavily too. Ok...that's random.

Seriously though, must THANK GOD for placing me here. I mean, it doesn't mean that I'll forget my pals in Singapore at the drop of a hat, but obviously I'll make (and be close to the) new friends here coz I come here without knowing anyone here mah!

Oh wells...it's a pretty long long post. Shall stop here and go take a shower. Oh...and PACK MY LUGGAGE. Going back to my uncle's house tomorrow, then back to Glasgow on the day after, hopefully, if my train isn't delayed by the snow. As for my Christmas break walk walk around UK...I'll most probably blog about it AFTER I get back. hahahahahha

making-sweetness in a world dusted with frosting sugar...
Sunday, December 20, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

THERE'S SNOW OUTSIDE! Yep, I'm gonna have a REAL white christmas, esp since there's severe weather warnings from the met office about snowstorms. The first time I saw snow (which was on thurs), I was still wondering why there was shaved ice falling from the sky and whether said ice was SNOW or SLEET. hahahaha....The FAILINGS of someone who's lived in the TROPICS all her life. It should be snow ba, since I heard some PRC at boots saying "市区里在下雪!" on the hp or something; and jul texted me to say that it's snowing too! hahahhaa...was 'arguing' with my dad on skype too about this matter.

Ok..I realise that it's very lame. Yep, I'm LAME. hahahhaa

And I realise that I only ever update my blog at the end of the block. I guess that's coz I don't have to rush out some random PBL over the weekend or something. hehehehe. But I'm suppose to pack my barang barang now...just...I'm abit CBA to drag my suitcase out. Jane the procrastinator shall do it after blogging and washing up. hehehehhehehee

So...I'll be in my uncle's place, then my aunty's place. Then I'll go to London for a few days, go back to my relatives' houses and return on the 7th. hahahhahaha...FUN FUN! At least I'm assured of company and not too bad food! And it's snowing there too....(Must remember not to be a goondo and wear sneakers in the snow again. Then again, I didn't know that it'll snow on thurs.)

Ah...this week was an AWESOME week though! Went ice-skating at an outdoor rink for the 1st time! SUPER SUPER FUN! Must untag ALL my unglam pics if dereck EVER posts them up on fb. I suck at ice-skating lor..but I'm not the lousiest and I made the most of my 5 quid k! EE is UBER GOOD, so skating with her is goodstuff; but skating with jul will shorten my lifespan. I mean, he won't make me fall, BUT it's FREAKING SCARY going kinda fast-ish when one sucks at keeping balance and everything. Ok...maybe the thrill of going fast is fun. somewhat, in a sadistic way. hahahahahaha...wadeva. And that david ah...come late. hahahah....so he didn't get his money's worth. Still, it's better than sam who was on the hp for more than half the time and trying not to slide onto the floor for the 15min she was actually on the ice. hehehe...too bad the rink's gone when I'm back in Glasgow. Nvm...will try to see if the other cities I'm going to will have them. Should have ba.

ANYWAY, also went to my 1st ballet! Nutcracker, with the songs from tchaik's nutcracker suite. A wee bit confusing though coz one has to BUY the programme (we all just bought 1 and shared...hehehe) and the storyline's kinda different from the original. Oh wells....the dancing was good, but I'm not a ballet fan, so...hehehe.

I should go and upload pics soonish. There's LOTSA them in my com and cam. This week was seriously a week of 1sts--1st time seeing snow, ice-skating outdoors, watching ballets, eating at KETCHUP (their burgers totally PWN carls' junior! GOODSTUFF K!)... I'd better get my lazy bum off this chair and start packing liao. At least I've bought all my presents expt the stuff I'm suppose to find at the Christmas fair and Sunday market tomorrow. Super glad that tomorrow's service is a Carol service! =D
