making-sweetness happy 牛 year, pull your ear
Tuesday, January 27, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

i'm in a lame mood now and i just wanna annoy my sister. hehehehe....she says it's not funny (and it really isn't).

anyways...i've been spending my time watching shows and tv! oh yes, and playing the cello. suppose to go and take exam later in the year and play for someone's wedding on saturday. darn...why must the rehersal be tomorrow night???? oh wells, at least it's the repeat-8-notes-for-the-whole-piece canon in d. easy peasy...hahaha

oh coolio! there's a FAKE wishing tree in my grandma's village. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. they showed it on the hk news for 2 days in a row. ROFL. seriously man! hahahaha...must go see the real (and fake) lam tsuen wishing tree when i next go back if the real one hasn't died and the fake one is still standing.

hmmmmm...should i go finish up the remaining 5 eps of 霹雳mit i have yet to watch? yeah, i'm super lag lor--1st few to start watching, last few to finish. the tv station made a BIIIIIIIIIG mistake of putting the complete series on dvd before they've finish screening the show. haiz. but it's not bad for a idol drama, at least there's some semblance of a plot (as unbelievable as it may seem).

the fact that it's like a mystery/detective story TOTALLY RAWKS!!!! jane is a murder mystery fanatic who's hooked on agatha christie and pd james...sooooooooo guessing who's the 'person who got the disc' wasn't that hard. especially once one gets the pattern the scripwriter uses. i'm very very sure that the 'act all innocent' 陆克英 has something to do with this whole business and there's a spy within pili mit itself. must be...i'm 100% sure of that.

making-sweetness the dawn of a new age?
Wednesday, January 21, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

maybe it's over optimism on the americans' side, or (more likely) it's coz things can't possibly get any worse for them. or can it?

anyways, i watched the inauguration of pres obama (like many people around the world) at about 1am yesterday. wahsay...lotsa people there watching him live in the bitterly cold national mall. still trying to figure out why it's called national mall when it isn't mall-like.

yeah, i'm bored ya...why else would i write on this while waiting for my show to load? stupid other com with msn--it still ain't wanna work.

but i digress. for all the hype about the ceremony, it was kinda boring. worse than ndp. you just sit around and wait for the vips to stroll in and take their seats slowly after their names are announced, not to mention the talking-to-the-poor-security-personnel-standing-by-the-side. and the golden yellow outfit was TERRIBLE, especially when paired with the (puke-like) dirty green gloves. the blue and salmon pink stuff the kids were wearing looked much better. but the inauguration gown supposedly looks much nicer--shall look out for it on the news

the instrumental piece was the best part! simple gifts! =) erm....and watching obama stumble on the pledge part...oops. was kinda bored by his speech so watched channel u instead (yu le bai fen bai!). it's all empty words to this cynic, words spoken simply to elevate the sense of euphoria in the air. if he does achieve what he promises to deliver, then will i pay more attention to him.

making-sweetness walk the talk...
Friday, January 16, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

whoppee! went out with gerielle yesterday and managed to minimise my spending! =) but it was still fun...and we were both late again (but i was later. oops).

anyways...ate at crystal jade! shared the lamian coz it's a really big portion! hahahaha....we just went and talk talk talk. very amusing =)

and thennnnnn....we went to kino! saves money coz there's no nice shows and kbox abit the ex without the card. hahahahahahaha....found some nice scores and interesting books (though the person who buys them must be crazy to spend so much on retarded books). it doesn't sound THAT interesting here, but believe me, IT WAS HILARIOUS. the talk lah. XD

that pretty much wraps up what i did yesterday in town (daos the going round taka basement to eat free cny goodies). i'm kinda bored now (especially since i really don't feel like practising my cello) without my beloved msnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. serious withdrawal symptoms liao.

therefore, i'll attempt to find some work to do. so that 1.i wouldn't be so bored AND 2.i can save up for my own com to install whatever i want.

on the side-note, maybe i should go and become a certified 1st-aider! the course is pretty short, you get to keep your card for 3 years, the theory test is easy and you are more equipped to help people! yay! and did i mention that it will use up some of the extra extra alot of time i have on my hands?

making-sweetness hear hear...
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

oooooooo...going out with gerielle on thurs! =) yayness! went to play badminton with my sis today coz the aunties my mum plays with booked extra courts. hahahaha...the reason behind the overbooking was hilarious. XP

anyways...haven't heard chinese songs for quite a while coz
1.i don't listen to songs while memorising things, like during As
2.i don't listen to songs while i'm out
3.i don't listen to songs while on holiday
4.i don't listen to songs while trying to write compos (or personal statements for that matter)
sooooooo....i haven't heard very many new songs even though i know that some people have new albums (like leehom and farenheit)

but i did hear canto songs overseas...this one just happens to be the nicest and one of the most spammed ones--heard it on tv, in shopping centres, as ringtones, etc...even heard it in s'pore. maybe it's coz it's the ending song of this uber nice tvb drama =) pity they can't play it on the airwaves in singapore coz of the ban on dialects or something...

oh...then there's this nice mayday song that the lead singer was said to have lip-synced during the countdown show in taipei. whatever...i like the song lor, even though it's yet another emo song. keep hearing it being played...

making-sweetness WHEEEEEEEE!
Monday, January 12, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

i've done the cuhk one liaoz =) now i'm suppose to settle my driving stuff. yes, that's me, the no income high expenditure girl. the kind that led to the economy's eventual downfall in US. actually, i wanna find a job in a hospital/clinic (FAT HOPE MAN) or go to MG and do relief teaching. just need to find out HOW to go about doing that.

ok...maybe i can replace ms soh who apparantly went on course. =) that's according to this p6 girl, who's my sister's good friend's sister. COOL. i don't mind teaching primary school kids.

still deciding whether to go for manual or auto. i wanna learn auto 1st, get that stinking license, then go and learn manual. BUT manual lessons are cheaper, it's easier to get a car and (according to my dad) it's easy. ya right man....just look at my lack of hand-eye-foot coordination. i bet i'll beat my mum in terms of the no. of tries i will have to take to pass. if she took n times, i'll take n+m times.

THERE'S AN MG GIRL IN CAMPUS SUPERSTAR?!?!?! wow....i thought mg girls have a natural aversion to chinese, other than the few exceptions. like me? not really, i'm still more angmoh. hehehehe. anyways, her singing is not too bad, but it's quite obvious that she's more comfortable in english. whatever...jiayou junior! (though i don't know her personally.)

oooooo....my sis got her results back. NOT BAD LEH. can use her as a walking advertisement if i want students to tutor. heheheheh...joking.

this is retarded, but i was asked (almost) the same question by 2 very different people. and the answer to their queries is 'NO' with rolling of eyes for added authenticity. it's much easier than saying 'yeah, technically. for a short while, but then it kinda got pretty complex. next thing i knew, all of a sudden...the wheels stopped turning.' obviously i wouldn't dig a hole for myself, open a can of worms, blah...especially when NO is the current 'correct' answer. i don't even mind being labelled a 'failure' man...i'd just rather no one else know. especially those (ie that second person that asked me the qn) that are totally not close to me and it's none of their business anyway.

it's just kinda scary...i mean, i've only been away for a month?!? didn't see it coming, then again it's technically not my business. i'm supposed to be 'older' but that ain't mean that i'm more mature. in fact, i admit that i'm pretty immature when it comes to this kinda stuff. i didn't tell anyone about 'that' incident, so it was kinda awkward later. you've gotta act normal, ceteris paribus-ish so that no one else would guess, but the worst part was to come the next couple of days. wah say....i'm still surprised no one guessed man. oh yes, plus the fact that i chopped off whatever ''strings were attached'' after that incident without much of a rhyme or reason...the entire thing reeks of immaturity of thought.

what a lousy way of tackling it. especially the whole two-facedness about it; saying one thing and doing another. absolutely not proud of it; ashamed more like. the aim for doing that was even more despicable, running along the lines of knowing what is wrong, yet making excuses for myself to do it, like 'i'll know the limits' or 'there's nothing wrong with expanding ''my horizons'' anyway.' in the end....i'm worse off. whatever. at least i've learnt my lesson, hopefully not to repeat it again.

making-sweetness MGHANDBELLS '06 RAWKS MY SOCKS
Thursday, January 8, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

suppose to edit the intro for the cuhk one...but DAO. heheheh...visited that place when i went back and BOY IS IT HUGE! walked forever from the train station and still barely made it to the main building. the fact that it's perched on the side of a mountain/hill doesn't help. the scenary is nice enough though. hahahha

craps...looks like rain. man....no bbqing? darn....

phew....IT DIDN'T RAIN IN THE END!!!!!! but it was uber windy and cooling =) went out to buy stuff for the fruit salad (and vegetables for my mum) after i wrote the above paragraph...and couldn't be bothered to continue till now. like 2pm on 9th jan. hehehehehehehe

BBQ WAS FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D the pit for the coals was awfully bent out of shape so we had a small small fire with moni being the 'firestarter', sandra and me arranging the coals around and the wind fanning the fire for us. okok...ahjing did alot of fanning later. heheheheh....the wind has a special affinity towards moni when she's got the lighter in hand--it picks up and blows the flame out. EVERY TIME.

and we all have specially labelled cups! =) mine says "big two (laoer) friendly rubbish bin" or something. ahma's one is the funniest--''LAOSAI QUEEN''. lol.......inside joke. anyways, sandra, yunjing, jinhui, krystle, monica, tiffany and our GOH pauline went! that's almost the whole 06 choir, plus we're gonna crash today's practise in a couple of hours time. heheheh...i hope mrs aw didn't do anything too disasterous to her hair.

ahhhhhhh..talked alot of rubbish and ate alot of food!!!!!!hahahahhaha...tiffany and ahjing were uber funny, especially about their BIG SECRET (that turned out to be kinda...-_-'') pics on facebook! should start a group to get yunjing on fb....hahahahahahahahah

oh yes...Os are coming out on mon. which means, traditionally, As will come out about 2-4 weeks after that. like...o.0...oh no. don't wanna get it back!!!!!!!! if it comes out b4 cny...then even more depressing. i don't wanna spend cny writing dumb personal statements!!!!!!! actually, i don't wanna get it back. what if i can't get aab including chem? mannnnnnn...an all out royal flush is out of the question.....

man....i shouldn't keep rotting at home. should find a job soonish. anyone wants to learn to drive too? the fact that i can't pay student fares anymore is a form of motivation...heheheheheh

if i could, i would rewind to 1st jan, '06. relive that whole year, then make the appropriate changes to the next 2 years. i don't even mind sitting for Os again, and i'll definitely study much harder if i could take As again. then again, should stop dwelling on the past. even though 06 seriously rawks, BIGTIME.

making-sweetness procrastinating again...
Wednesday, January 7, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

congratulations....i've just wasted another morning. hahahha....and i can't be bothered to try if my other com works. too bad...i will attempt to survive without msn. hehehehe...

yes yes yes...i realise i'm much better at writing c*** (ie blogging) than writing 'humbly phrased self-praise'. give me self-deprecating humour any day. in fact, i'll be all too happy to write a couple of gp essays in return for helping me to write this %$%$((*&^%$$ statement.

ok fine....maybe not, seeing that i've already got 500+ words written down (it's nearly 1am now), just need to think of a nice conclusion. BUT I'M BORED TO TEARS! the lack of msn is a mixed blessing too. i've been aimlessly wandering around the internet for the whole day instead of talking to all and sundry....hahahhaa... what a LOSER.

nevermind....REUNION TOMORROW! yay! =) i've just picked the easiest thing to do again--fruit salad. hahahhahahah....something to get me out of the house. (and off the com, if i may add...)

after typing here and on that **&^&%!!&^%&*(* word document intermittently, I'VE FINALLY FINISHED THAT *bleep*ING THING. actually i was sooooooooo bored that i actually bothered to blog, though nothing particularly interesting happened.

OH...i just have something retarded to rant about: why is 陈键峰 made to play such an annoying loser on that 9.35 show (凤凰四重奏) ?????? WHYYYYYYY???? luckily it's only the '1st generation', so hopefully he'll play a nice guy in the 'later generations'. man.....why must he be the 败家子 and not joe ma??????? ok...fine. i've searched it (and spoilt the story for myself) AND he does play a nice guy....in the last generation. GREAT. now i have to wait like 20+ episodes to see him as a nice guy at the end. hmph. i'm sure it's coz tvb is biased against the artistes that it does not manage. hahahahahahahha..... i shall look for nicer shows where he is a nice guy, like 怪侠一枝梅 and 识法代言人.

hahahaha....and i can't wait to see 秋香怒点唐伯虎! saw some of the 'behind the scenes' shots in hk and it looks HILARIOUS! oh...not to mention the fact that myolie wu and moses chan (my next fav pairing after myolie wu and sammul chan....obviously) are acting in it! hehehehehehehhehe....yays! that reminds me of how many shows i want to watch now lah...stupid other com.

making-sweetness back...hopefully for a longer time period
Monday, January 5, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

oooo...back from the 'day trip to malaysia'. went to kl to see relatives...hopefully not for the last time. choy choy touchwood. stayed at dorsett regency overnight--4 people squeezing onto 1 king/queen-sized bed. hehehehehehehe.....the price of trying to save money.

anyways....i feel old. my cousin was telling her baby that i'm 'aunty jane'...HAIZ. but the baby is a really cute 6week old girl called caryn! hahahahha.....chao adorable the way she looks around at people and stuff!!! ohmy ohmy! kawaii-nei! i think my aunty spoils her by always carrying her around, so she's (as in the baby) kind of attention-hungry now...awwwww....

oh...and i saw my around-the-same-age cousin after 6 years. the last time i saw him (and his younger brother...) was at my paternal grandfather's funeral (can't help it, he was in malaysia or perth while i'm in s'pore). i thought he was this other older cousin man...coz he looks super different now! of course lah....he's 17 now--he looked like a kid the last time i saw him. wait a sec, he WAS a kid.

hahhah...he knows a high sch guy and quite a good number of barker people...the act beng type. hahahahha. in fact, one of his first few questions was whether i went to the zoukout. (me: what?!?!?! duh no!) lol...ok...at least it's an improvement compared to our convo topics last time, like 'i dare you to eat that.' or 'i bet you can't do this with your chopsticks'. now it's more 'adult-like', about schools, future plans, etc. man...he's going to uni this year too...i should have just gone to australia after 'O's and be 1 year faster.

oh! and here's the really good news! thank God my grandma accepted Christ....after much prayer. yayness! i think so lah...no one knows the heart of a person except God.

ok...time to get back to finishing up the retarded applications i keep refusing to do. my com with msn is temperamental...so i'm kinda reduced to talking on facebook with this laptop. SADDDDDDDDD

making-sweetness happy new year! (pull your ear)
Saturday, January 3, 2009 making-sweetness Back to the top

lame saying i've heard since young...and repeated around this time every year without fail. oooo...it rhymes too!

hahaha....anyways...I'M BACK. but not for long....going to malaysia tomorrow to visit relatives and stuff. cool. 3 places in a week...hahah.

bio is bad for my state of mind and mental health. when i overheard it, the first thing i thought of was multistage blah blah, mutation of 3 tsg and 1 pog, etc. (if i remembered correctly...) there's nothing much to be done now other than pray. haiz.

hk was FUN! and very fattening too-i still haven't lost my 05 blubber and i bet i've gained more weight. haiz. shall divide this post abt hk into 4 sections--trivialities, eats, buys and sights. pix should come later coz my usual com (ie the one with msn, linked to the printer and has the cam software downloaded into it) is officially on strike. it just keeps hanging, to the utmost dismay of every com user in the family.

overall, the hk tourism board catchphrase can pretty much sum up what i did-eat and shop. ok....i did go walk walk walking about, watch tv (hk dramas!), do my adult ic, read (like about 8 books in 2 weeks), meet up with relatives and my parents' friends...BUT I DIDN'T GET TO GO TO OCEAN PARK! =( awww....too bad. shall try again when i go back for that mandatory once-every-3-years visit to keep my 3 stars on the ic.

trivialities--random observations jane makes
1. the air in hk is really awful in contrast to that in s'pore. period. the sky is always so grey and one sees the buildings on the other side of victoria harbour as if shrouded in a mist. that was the first thing i noticed coz there see med to be a brown smog thingy over the whole area which was especially apparent when the plane was landing. prob pollution from the industrial areas in china (as everyone says...hahha)

2. the weather RUINED my HAIR and already pretty awful SKIN. it's much drier there than in s'pore, so my hair and skin kinda dried up even though i slathered on moisturisers as if my life depended on it. hahahha....blowing dry my hair was a big mistake too, but i was cold mah.

3. facebook addicts are scary. i didn't use the com as oft as i would like to (free internet at the shopping centre!) coz of this FREAKY guy who would peer over your shoulders as you check your mail, etc so that he can pounce on you and use the com once you 'appear' to be done with your stuff. very annoying to have a stranger staring at your mail can. good grief. and who gets this addicted to facebook anyway?

4. I GREW FAT AGAIN! over there, i don't eat till i'm full. i eat till i'm bursting at the seams, on the verge of puking out that last dimsum/vegetable/mouthful of rice, etc. hahhahaha....a little exaggeration there.

5. no one likes poor bush. saw the clip of the guy throwing the shoes at him on the train and everyone in the carriage was either laughing or saying 'dai sei' (ie 'serves him right.')

6. jj isn't very successful with his attempt to enter the hk market. but the good news is that his duet with ah sa is quite a popular ringtone! heard 'xiao jiu wo' a couple of times in random places....hahahahhahahha

7. hk people are more vocal than s'poreans, like they would talk to random strangers they are sharing the table with if they wanna add to the convo that random person is having with his/her friends.

8. they play the chinese national anthem before news time on tv every single day, for obvious reasons. man....after hearing it for 3 weeks, i can memorise the lyrics and sing the song lor! i can also sing the jingle soler sang for the 'zhui hung yun' advert, as well as the theme song for the cooking show 'so far so good' (very entertaining watching ah so cook! hahahha) keep hearing these songs over and over again, plus they are really catchy too!

9. fish don't die immediately even after you degut them. they can still wriggle around in the plastic bag like 15 min after you remove its innards. hahahah.....how fun! nice to see them swimming around in the market too, flapping around, taking what could be their last breath. SADISTIC....

eats--the reason for my growing waistline =(
now i realise why i get so fat whenever i go to hk--i keep having to finish up the large amount of food on the table. my nice po po (grandma who seems to have made up her mind about me being a da xiao jie who doesn't do anything, much to my indignation) cooks at least 4 large dishes (including soup) and occasionally buys roast duck/roast meat, etc to 'ga song' (literally add dishes)

after eating so much for dinner and drinking 2 bowls of soup almost every day, HOW CAN I NOT GROW FAT???? not to mention the occasional 'chee chiong fun' for breakfast, 'yum cha' and eat dimsums for lunch a few times a week and trying food that's been recommended by that chua lam guy. terrible.

oh....back to the food. JANE LIKES TO GO AND YUM CHA! mostly, it's just my family and popo, but once we went with relatives (this gu po and a suk ye. i must rmb to go tweak the lang thingy on this com one day.) 'ming sing' is still the best in the area, LOVE THEIR ROASTED YOUNG PIGEONS AND YAM CAKES! hahahha....and it's cheap too! less than hk$200 for 5 people and you can eat till you wanna puke. that's about s$8 per person, the average price if you were to eat at the roadside stalls or cha chan tang (the hk-style teahouse thingy) anyway.

oooo....love the roadside food too! hahahhahaha....my fave is the 'gai dan zhai', literally translated as little egg. hahahhaha....it's kinda like a waffle batter thing and hard to describe the shape. they sell it everywhere anyway...so keep a lookout for them! ate stinky tofu and curry fishballs too.

DESSERTS! went to eat 'done lai' and 'done dan' (milk and egg respectively that's somehow cooked till it solidifies) at some famous place with a looooooong queue! lotsa random tourists holding their guidebooks queueing up there. hheheheheheh. had 'yung ji gum lo' and my fav sesame paste at other dessert shops too!

oh....and i can't forget those other 'recommended by chua lam' shops. that guy is a s'porean who's currently based in hk now and has his own food programme bringing guests to eat at good places around hk. anyways, there's this wanton noodle stall and fishball noodle stall there's pretty good at the market my popo frequents. when i got to hk island (i stayed with my popo in the new territories mah. so must cross the sea to get to hk island where central, causeway bay, etc are), we went to try some beef noodles there (not too bad) and the always-featured-on-tv milk tea (that was good. this means something coz i HATE milk tea). ate pretty good claypot rice that day too! hahahahhaha...

buys--jane stares more than buys coz it's wintertime
MUST SHARE MY BEST BUY FIRST! ooooo....jane is excited liao. hahahahha....it's a big, white GENUINE adidas bag for about s$30!!!!!!!! you don't find real adidas bags that can fit 2 big shoe boxes (and still have some leftover space)in s'pore going for that price. anyways, i bought it at an adidas factory outlet sale in this big building specialising in the distribution of fashion wear right outside the 'lai chee kok' mtr station. my mum bought a lot of t-shirts there too!

grandville road (near tsim tsa tsui) is also a good place for nice clothes! bought a skirt, a very cool looking top, 3/4 pants and stuff there. the mongkok and tsim tsa tsui areas have nice stuff if you know where to go! also bought jeans and a watch around there. oooooooo...was so tempted to buy a fedora--there were soooooooooooo many nice ones there, but my mum would probably ask me why would i buy it (and i'll be forced to answer 'coz it's cool and jj keeps wearing it.' hahahhahahaha....wonder what she'll say to that.)

bought kawaii-ish pouches around temple street! they sell alot of fake bags and stuff there. oh yes.....and 'adult toys' too, really openly somemore....disgusting.

sights--aka walking and taking pics session
went to lamma island with my dad and sis coz my mum didn't wanna walk. left early in the morning to go to the harbour and take a boat there, but we kinda missed it so we went to eat macs first. hahahahha. did you know that chow yun fatt lives there? well...now you do! (lotsa angmohs like that place too and no, we didn't see his house.) followed a rudimentary map from one harbour to the other, traversing across a large part of the island. it goes up up up and then down.....providing for the quintessentially hongkonger past-time 'hang san'-ing. ya....we literally walked round roads in the mountains. lol. ate some tau huey there too, supposedly made by an ah po and really silky smooth.

another place we went walking around is hk island. went to look see look see after taking the bus there.....oh and to eat as well. hahahahahahha. it's expensive to cross the sea lor, so must make the most out of it. anyways, the roads there are like super narrow! major dif compared to that across the sea in kowloon and nt. must be coz of the lack of space on that puny island. ohhhhh....there's this cool road called 'ladder street' or something which is literally made of just steps! hahahhaha....apt name. anyways, we walked around hollywood road, gawked at the random antiques they sell there, walk around narrow streets lined with touristy goods, etc. hahahha...good way to burn off the fats (as compared to lazing around on the couch watching tv)

ohohoh! we also saw the christmas lights on that day! around the avenue of stars in tsim tsa tsui....where they have the handprints of famous actors on the ground. erm.....they prob come from a dif era coz i don't really recognise the most of the people whose handprints are there lor! hahahaahahha. except like tony leung, wong kar wai, jackie chan, etc....hahhahahahhaa. walked around there looking at the christmas lights on the buildings and across the harbour. eeeeee....my hands kept shaking during the long exposure used in the night mode so the pics are kinda blurry.

and another place we went to is yuen long on a long long bus ride up and down the mountains, past many villages. didn't do much there other than buy lao po bing and goodies from the famous shops there. hahahhahahah

erm.....since it is considered a tourist attraction, i might as well say that the village popo lives in is a 'sight' too. there's this wishing tree there that you could throw stuff with your wish written on the stuff--until a main branch gave way and broke one fine day during cny a few years back. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA. ironic. the toilet is really famous too coz it's really nice (cost a pretty penny to build too), won some 'best toilet' award and it's free! haahahhahah....not bad for a public toilet....LOL. went down to the river nearby to go walk walk....there's nice fish swimming in there and fields of flowers for cny. nice idyllic place!

hahahahaha........long long post. it's a bad habit man.....my posts seem to get longer and longer with each successive post. lol. then again, it's hard to compress 3 weeks into 1 post. it's in the middle of the night again now. hahahhhahaha. haiz. too bad for my panda eyes.
