Finally....a well-deserved break from work! Still feeling pretty knackered from going to the gym today to discover undeveloped muscles (LOL) and the stresses of the week, but this album is soooo good that I can't wait to share it!!!!! =D
The album I'm gonna rave about? It's CNBlue's first studio album, First Step.
Granted, only 3 of the songs there are entirely new, with the other 9 being Korean versions of songs from their Japanese albums...BUT...they contributed to the making of 75% of the album! There aren't many other mainstream kpop bands which are THAT involved in the production of their album. Ahhh....PROUD TO BE A BOICE! Hehehe....don't think it's a coincidence that my favourite songs are composed by the boys themselves!

Anyway, back to the music. My favourite track is actually "LOVE Girl"!!! I can't say how much I wish this was their title track coz it suits them much much better than the whole 'rebel without a cause' image in their title song. Plus plus plus...Yonghwa composed this song AND wrote the lyrics! I'd like to think he wrote this with seohyun in mind but I'm a bit deluded ba. Hahaha....
It's such a happy song with solos for everyone plus a jungshin rap! Puts a smile to my face EVERY TIME I listen to it....L.O.V.E Girl, L.O.V.E Boy! =D
Can't decide my next favourite song, so I'll call it a tie! It's only fair anyway since they have totally different moods; not appropriate to compare them against each other. ^^
On the totally emo side, there's "Love Comes with the Rain", the korean version of their Japanese song Eclipse. It's composed by Jonghyun (!!!!) and he's the main singer. The plucked guitar intro is already quite emo, but when Jonghyun starts singing, I can totally feel the 'yearning' in this song (even before the translations came out). Have I mentioned the harmonisation with Yonghwa is ABSOLUTE LOVE??? Hehehehe....I must confess that Jonghyun is my bias in CNBlue so I'll definitely sing his praises. (pun pun!)
Don't think it's a major secret that I've got a soft spot for guitarists, especially if they sing and play....*MAJOR BIG-TIME SWOONING!!!*
The song that "Love Comes with the Rain" is tied with is "Imagine". It's the 1st song that was released to the public via Yonghwa's CF with Hazzy Bags....and it is definitely as sweet as cotton-candy clouds! =D If I had that as my alarm, I'll never be able to get up in the morning coz it's THAT soothing plus it makes me wanna go back to dreamland and imagine pretty things. ^^
As an avid Yongseo follower, I can't help but think about "Love light" when I hear this song, especially since Yonghwa wrote the lyrics! I don't know if I've been reading toooooo many Yongseo fan comments but....the things Yonghwa imagines seemed to have been shown in WGM.
Just a couple of examples....
- "Share each side of the earphone together" CHECK (on train)
- "Not worrying about glances from others" CHECK (earmuff shopping)
- "White house"...."Yellow swings" CHECK. (just change swings to sofa)
- "Waking you up in the morning" CHECK (when yong made breakfast)
- "My fourth finger is telling me" REFERENCE TO COUPLE RING, NO?
And the most OBVIOUS one....."Imagine us being each other's halves". Is that not the whole concept of the show We Got Married. Hahaha....Yong ahhhh....just admit it man. ^^ Unless I'm the one imagining things. Hehe
Now I really can't make up my mind....I'll just put up the cool songs in no particular order...
There's Lie, composed by Jonghyun. It really sounds like an ending song to some anime, since they are normally slightly emo-rock. The lyrics are as powerful as the song, like how someone tries to swallow his tears and act strong when he sees his ex with someone else or something. And yes...I do think it's a very masculine song. The guitar rifts and solos (played by Jonghyun, no less) are absolute LOVE too, plus how Jonghyun and Yonghwa split the vocal parts such that there is a general shape to the music. It's soo musical! Jonghyun begins it since he has a soft, emo voice; then Yong takes over and sings more towards the chorus (especially towards the end) since he has a stronger voice that can match the emotional intensity of the song as it builds up.
I'm actually analysing this song like I would for Music. -.- Hahaha
Now for a less emo song -- One of a Kind. It's in English, just like alot of their songs from their Japanese albums. At least the lyrics make sense (more than usual anyway) PLUS I CAN HEAR WHAT THEY ARE SINGING! That's a major feat for Koreans who have never lived in US or UK! In fact, it's got much better lyrics than....Rebecca Black's Friday. I already know the order of the days in the week tyvm Ms Black. But I digress. This is such a radio friendly song which I can't help but sing along. Hehehehe...
Another song I can't help but sing along to is "Thank you", just that I heard the Japanese version first, so I keep singing Arigatou instead of Gomawoyo. -.- Jonghyun's voice suits this piece perfectly...maybe it's something to do with the fact that he composed it. ^^ I just realised I like ALL the songs Jonghyun composes....it's sooo my style. The right mix of emo and breeziness...just like his voice. =D Btw..the lyrics for Thank you are so sweet! I think he dedicated this song to CNBlue fans, so (very very) technically, it's written for me! Hahaha....Gomawoyo Jonghyun ah! *deluded fangirl mode*
The last song I'm sharing is "Wanna be like You". It's light and breezy...and at least the Korean version isn't as 'wrong-sounding' as the English version. It's just that 1 line....hahaha. Good for listening when one is down anyway.
7 SONGS. I LOVVVVEEEE more than half the album and I haven't even written about their title song "Intuition"! It's not that I dislike that song...I just wish that Jonghyun had more parts there. That being said, it's such a cool song that just maybe his voice doesn't fit in there that well. It's got a cool starting dj part and it really sounds like Maroon 5 leh! Same feel anyway. They look so cool & tough in their MV, though...Stylist Noona ah, please cut down on Minhyuk's manliner, he doesn't need that much black round his eyes. And...I don't think they are badboy enough to fit the whole MV concept. Apparantly, Yong was knitting in between filming for this MV (going by the clothes in the book he gave hyun), so...THAT IS SO NOT BADBOY LOR!
Overall, this album has a good mix of songs and it's listener friendly! One can really hear the amount of effort they put in to put this album together, PLUS, everyone in the band is more involved now. It's not just Yong rapping and singing most of it...Jonghyun actually sings most of the songs in some and Jungshin raps too! Minhyuk was probably too busy with drama filming to be that involved...next album then, little drummer boy!
Anyways, enjoy listening to the album! Just because I didn't post the song doesn't mean I don't like it....just...I really should go pack my pigsty now. Probably while looping the whole album for only the....gazillion-th time. xD
The world's officially going mad. It's all in the signs.....
First, there's all those natural disasters like the earthquake(s) & tsunami in Japan...which is gonna get madder with the radioactive mess caused by the disaster. Why are there so many strong earthquakes recently anyway?? Kinda scary eh.
Then there's the infighting/wars and rumours of wars, especially in the middle east. First tunisia, then egypt, then libya....who knows which country's next!
Closer to 'home', the weather is sooo strange recently. It was SNOWING yesterday, foggy this morning..and...*POOF* The sun comes out to play! Winter became spring in a matter of hours. LOL
On a more personal front...I've got coursework, mock OSCEs (both due on the same day!) and huge never-done-anything-like-this-before PBLs. AHHHHHHH.....*Tears hair from head* Maybe that's why I got abit crazy over the weekend and wrote that literary piece. HAHAHA...
Shall go back to work and stop trying to figure out why the world is getting crankyyy....
Hmmm...is there anything wrong with writing frivolous junk? Was just comparing contents of my blog with 1 of my year-mates earlier today and.....boy are our posts different! She writes emo stuff interspersed with first time she does a medical procedure, thoughts about this VS chat...solid, proper stuff. And me? The evidence is right before your eyes. I write about the fun things I do, with whatever I'm currently crazy about woven tightly (and randomly) in the midst of it all. Occasionally, I find my marbles and write slightly more reflective pieces such as this.
And thanks uncle Dav. I AM frivolous.
Not that it bothers me.
After all, to each his own. Whatever we write about tends to reflect bits of our character...and our inner views on the reason behind having a blog in the first place. For me, it's more of a place to think about stuff OUTWITH my worries/work for mental relaxation. Don't think I wanna come back here in 5-10 years time and read about how emo and horrible and inadequate I feel at a certain point in time. There's too much trouble in the world for that anyway.
Soooo...to people who do read my crappiness...rest assure, that random 'lol. wth' factor about my posts will not change. Frivolous? Let it be frivolous then!
Really busy now with school and all.....so I guess I don't have as much time to blog and I haven't started watching ANY SHOW since MGIG (which was in september). SAD LIFE MAN. But...doing work means I'll listen to random songs! Been listening to LOADS of jason mraz covers by chance! His songs just make PERFECT background music when mugging...maybe coz they are nice & soothing enough.
