making-sweetness WOOT!!!! *warning: long post ahead....*
Sunday, June 8, 2008 making-sweetness Back to the top

obviously, the very brilliant you can guess what i'm going to blog about. it's like...DUH. but i shall digress a bit first and talk about other stuff.

took SATS yesterday and saw soooooooooo many exMG gals there. hahaha....i thought they would take theirs at AC, but apparantly, they would rather take their SATS in town (probably to facilitate their shopping trip later in the day). i guess it was ok, considering that i didn't study very much for it and i didn't make it past half of the wordlist thing. just tikam lah...hahahaha. i'll be contented with 2200.

but had this really really really bad stomachache today. like pukes-out-most-of-my-lunch-and-gets-confined-to-the-toilet kind of bad. sucks man....must be food i had at platinum plaza on the last day in thailand. hurrah for carbon and lomotil! lolz...jane doesn't understand why she doesn't get stomachache after eating mouthfuls of padthai and mango sticky rice from roadside stalls, but gets food poisoning after eating snacks at a shopping centre. argh....still feel queasy now....

ok...now i'll return to the crux of the matter. the highlight of the past week. HCSE TRIP TO THAILAND 2008!!! =) chao chao chao chao fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hahahahah....knew some of the juniors better, went crazy with the shopping, but most importantly, it was an eye-opening experience. i could truly feel the Lord beside us all the way, helping us to resolve all the problems that cropped up and just protecting and keeping watch over us. i also saw some stuff that really touched me and made me realise how blessed i am here in singapore. seriously. like when i saw 2 BAREFOOTED kids who were probably less than 10 years old wiping car windows for a paltry sum at the traffic light, my heart totally went out to them. the weather was soooooooo hot (and i bet the tarmac road was burning too) there and these kids should be going to school lah! not wiping people's windows. man.....it was such a sad sight...i really feel sooooooo blessed here.

maybe i wouldn't be able to finish this today coz my dad is adament about chasing me from the com. sighs. i'll go in chronological order =)

saturday...

UBER LONG DAY!!!!! got up at 4am to go to the airport coz the flight was at around 7am. jane is not a morning person so jane was only half awake. flew via thai airways and THERE WASN'T A PERSONAL TV LEH! ok....it's been ages since i got onto a plane without 1 of those things. hahaha. at least i didn't have to lug my cello around and my check-in was only around 8kg. chao light.

random ensem pic at the airport...

plane food was ok lah and i didn't do any work on the plane ok. XP ANYWAYS, skip skip to touchdown in bangkok. it's 1 hr behind singapore time. darn...i don't have a pic of kenneth waiting for jacqueline (his cello XP) at the airport. he was looking forlornly (does this word even exist?) at the bulky luggage place, waiting for a glimpse of silver (his cello case is silver mah...) perfect kodak moment XD. anyways, we went to a NICE nice hotel called palawan hotel, which had really nice food. i mean REALLY REALLY GOOD BREAKFAST AND LUNCH! it's the nicest among the 3 hotels that we stayed in =)

random pic of dessert that we (ie farrica n i) mixed....

had a short short prac in the hotel after we chucked our stuff into our rooms. obviously i roomed with my strings bestie, farrica. hahaha....too bad yingpeng couldn't come along, but we did take pics with the tap in all our hotel rooms. (it's an insider thing...) aww...but the pics are with farrica (must remind self to kope pics from her after block test. she has alot of our pics....)

what bored people (like me) do during practice...take random pics. XD

went to mabukong (argh....thai word. dunno how to spell. nvm, just call it mbk.) to shop after this!!! walked to the mrt station from the hotel, then switched to the sky train. quite amused to see how vigilant the mrt station guards are-they blow their whistles SUPER LOUDLY if any itsy bitsy part of you crosses the yellow line on the floor. such paranoid people. anyway, that place is HUGE! good place to buy (fake branded) bags and shoes. there's 6/7 storeys worth of retail space and it's about the size of IMM (or even bigger XP) Attempted to find a bag to replace my 'crumpler', but couldn't really find one coz i don't like those fake branded bags that display the brand that they're trying to fake so prominently. sheesh....so poser to carry such a bag (i don't care if people say that imitation is the greatest compliment, i don't support fake stuff.)

but.....i did buy pressies for the gals in my class and a nice pair of converse shoes! the converse shoes there are a steal! only about S$30 leh! and it's probably the real macoy (at least i hope it is...) had a quick quick dinner upstairs, where farrica ordered this totally not spicy tomyum soup. tasted more like the mildest of laksa to me....XP Then, went to shop summore! hahaha....guys operate differently from girls: we spent most of our time shopping, while they spent slightly more than 2hrs eating their shabu shabu. hahahaha. pooped out when we got back...so i didn't really do much work that night (as usual)

sunday...

felt weird not going to church on sunday. didn't see any church nearby anyway. went for a workshop with the thai youth orchestra instead, ie a must sight-read like mad session. mozart's eine kleine is still relatively sight-readable, but the marriage of figaro is a totally different story altogether. running quavers in the first 8bars left me...stunned. shocked. hahaha....obviously i just faked it man...ahahahaha.

my stand-partner for the day! i bet she practised the marriage of figaro like mad since she played that fast part so well....

had our own practice too so played bits of holberg and tchaik just before lunch. lunch was a relatively simple affair i guess....then went back in to play schnitte. eunice suddenly dropped the bomb by asking me to play that imba high solo part like 1bar before i was suppose to play...hahah. at least i managed to push the part back to her. the thai youth orch people looked quite amused while we played that...hahaha. it's such an avant garde piece, quite surprized that they seemed to enjoy it (maybe they were just being polite...)

went shopping (again....hahah) after practice, this time it was free-and-easy, so different people went to different places. had to go in a big group of at least 5 people, with both guys and girls for obvious safety reasons, so we (bestie and i) went to SIAM SQUARE with tianyi, dennis, brian, diyou, guanhui, alan and zhengwei. diyou probably wanted to kill farrica and me coz he INSISTED on squeezing into the backseat of the cab with us (he claims that he wanted to separate us, but that's a different story altogether.) brian sat in front lah, while we poor girls were squished with diyou at the back, especially when the cab does a sharp turn...just gg. hahaha....ok lah, it wasn't that bad. just trying to niao diyou by exaggerating the situation. XP

after finally reuniting with the rest of the people who took another cab, we split up to go gal shopping (otherwise the guys would be soooooo bored...hahaha) at SIAM SQUARE! there's more funky stuff here, not so much tacky fake branded stuff. 大收获here!!!! bought 2 tops, 1 skirt (yes...i do wear skirts, just not that often...), 1 nice pair of flats, 1 bag, some accessories....can't remember liao. oh...1 super kawaii 10baht pencil to replace the 1 that i lost the previous day. SUPER CHEAP STUFF LAH! tianyi and farrica bought lotsa stuff too!!! hahahahahaha....i wanna go back there to shop lah. saw that hello kitty shop that ms june tan (this mg lit teacher...) took a pic of when she went to bangkok. spam hello kitty stuff man. oh....and i found out that thai people are unbelievably skinny....can barely get into some of the clothes there lah. =( my shoulders are too broad to wear some of the tops and stuff...

after that, met back with those ungentlemenly guys who made us wait for them while they attempted to buy stuff at mbk. sheesh....they're not as efficient as us girls lor...hahaha. alan has pics, but they're not very flattering, so i shan't kope those ugly pics of us. went to platinum mall after that to eat and shop somemore, but was ripped off lah! 150baht for a 15min ride. darn. and that spastic platinum mall and nearby pratunam plaza both close at 8pm...which is sooooooo annoying since we only left mbk at 7++pm. we did see audrey, eunice, sarah and zhiwei at the swensons there...hahahah. but we went walking round to find food, especially since diyou was complaining on and on about his empty stomach. there's lotsa street food there, but we were quite apprehensive about eating those stuff (fears about food poisoning and all that...), so we eventually settled for some cosy(and very empty) cafe. there was absolutely DELISH mango sticky rice sold nearby, with mangoes TO DIE FOR! chao chao chao nice!!!! diyou gobbled 1 of his many packets of mango rice while waiting for the rest of the food to come.
all of us at that cafe thing! too bad the 2 malaysians look....hahahahahha.

wanted to walk around the pasar malam-ish stalls outside pratunam plaza, but we were all called back to the hotel coz of the anti-govt demonstrations nearby. awwwwwww....it was a peaceful protest man, with singing and all...nevermind. hahahaha....at least the taxi driver forced diyou to sit in front this time...hahaha. went back, worried for a while about the demonstration thingy and was bored enough to take random pics with farrica (the rest of them are with her though...hahah).

both of us doing....hahahaha....retarded stuff.

our very messy hotel room (but that's because we were packing our stuff....)

monday...

went to harrow international school to perform and stuff. but we took some pics before we checked out...

batch photo!!!! 2 cousins in front...hahaha.

diyou's very oxymoronic shirt. (it says 'hey skinny' there btw and the comic behind is hilarious)

anyways...THAT SCHOOL IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NICE. the school building is nice, clean, well-organised and almost fully air-conditioned. they've got really cute hats as part of the uniform too! like your typical anglo-fied boarding school (think eton's uniform and you get the picture). the school fees are about s$2000 a month, comparable to HCIS. but, it's definitely more worth it to go to harrow for the same price coz the facilities are SOOOOOOOOO much better and they even intend to build an arts centre on the lake. i mean....they even have a lake on their compounds man....no fair. they prepared a buffet for us and the spread was 100000times better than anything that hc serves it's guests at special functions. seriously, the principal ceo should visit harrow and LEARN from them. totally.

shucks...i've got alot of stoning pics. soooooooo unglam and ugly. i won't put ANY of those here. you can link from the strings blog to the 'official webpage' if you want. XP there's lotsa pics on that webbie coz there was this 'professional' photographer guy going round taking random pics and asking people to take random pics. concert was quite ok tho...just that i was stoning so i wouldn't say that i really played my best. i guess everyone was too tired to concentrate on the pieces properly.

but i did take quite a no. of pics later, just that most of them were not using my cam. hahahah.

random pic with farrica! hahahahah...

that's hut (not really sure how to spell his name, but it's pronounced like that), the lone thai cellist who joined us. he studies at that cool school on scholarship man..no fair...

this is proud! she's the daughter of the couple that helped arrange the trip for us and she's a really nice gal! (though she really was kinda quiet at first...)

rushed to the airport after the concert to catch the flight to chiangmai, even though it was only about 6pm and the flight was at around 11pm. the domestic airport was kinda....sparse. nothing to buy, not many places to eat at and stuff. a stark difference from changi airport.

coz there was absolutely nothing to do in that airport, we just take random pics. 1st 1 is jnr-snr pic with valencia, then with farrica added in.

anyways, we just ate thai food there (yet another meal with tomyum....) and waited for the flight. decided to do 1 SAT paper sporadically: do 1-2 parts, play 1 game of connect-4 with wayne (and win), do 1 more part, watch ma siyuan challenge wayne to connect-4, do another part, look here and there....you get the idea. hahahahahah..bored to tears mah. farrica gave up on mugging after the 1st page of econs.

thennnn, after waiting for a looooooooooooong time, we got on the plane to chiangmai! since that was a really really really long day, i will continue with the rest of it in the next post that's been dedicated to chiangmai. XP
